John D MacArthur Park has become a favorite destination among my clients for their engagement photos! With its gorgeous sunset views and peaceful shores, it’s no surprise that my newly engaged couples are able to relax during their session and have fun creating authentic moments!
Melissa & Sheldon were specifically looking for an outdoor setting for their engagement photos. When I talked with them, I knew instantly that John D MacArthur Park would be the perfect location for the look they wanted to create. Once we settled on the location, I sent Melissa my getting-ready guide. This allowed her to put together some outfit inspiration based on what would work best for the location and time of day. When you scroll through the photos below, you’ll see that they knocked it out of the park!
I always love meeting my clients on the day of their shoot and seeing the looks they put together! Melissa and Sheldon came to the shoot in their formal wear before changing into a classy meets laid-back look that worked for photos by the shore. To start the session, Melissa wore a gorgeous floating red gown with a thigh-high split. Perfect for photos by the beach where the wind created movement in her dress which photographed beautifully. Melissa also had her hair and makeup professionally done earlier in the day, which came out gorgeous! Sheldon wore a white linen button-down shirt, untucked, with a pair of khakis and lace-up dress shoes. Their attire complimented each other so well. It was clear that they put a lot of thought into selecting their outfits for their engagement photos!

We began the session with some photos on the pathway into the park. From there, with the sun beginning to set, we made our way over to the dock. The sun was producing a gorgeous warm glow just above the tops of the trees in the backdrop behind us. Resulting in gorgeous engagement photos with an intimate feel. Lastly, to finish the session, Melisssa and Sheldon had a quick outfit change and then it was time to walk along the beach. Melissa had a custom denim jacket made with writing on the back that read “Mrs. Johns”. The jacket was embellished with pearls and was such a pretty choice to wear over her white dress on the beach!
